  • 1 whole head garlic cloves peeled
  • 1 large piece fresh ginger sliced
  • 1 large piece fresh turmeric sliced
  • 1 small horseradish root peeled and grated
  • 1 lemon thinly sliced
  • 1 orange thinly sliced
  • 1 jalapeño sliced
  • 2 sprigs fresh rosemary
  • 2 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 1 tablespoon whole black peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 –4 cups apple cider vinegar enough to cover
  • ¼ –½ cup raw honey to taste

Instructions

  • Add the onion, garlic, ginger, turmeric, horseradish, lemon, orange, jalapeño, herbs, peppercorns, and cinnamon to a large clean glass jar.
  • Pour the apple cider vinegar over the ingredients until everything is completely covered.
  • Seal the jar and store it in a cool, dark place for 3–4 weeks.
  • Shake gently once a day or every few days.
  • Strain the mixture through cheesecloth or a fine-mesh strainer.
  • Stir in the honey until dissolved.
  • Transfer the finished homemade fire cider to a clean glass bottle or jar.
  • Refrigerate and enjoy as desired.

Notes

  • Adjust the hot pepper to control the spice level.
  • Add more honey for a sweeter flavor.
  • Use parchment paper under a metal lid to prevent vinegar from reacting with the metal.
